MISSISSAUGA, Ontario, Jan. 21, 2017 – Patrick Miller had 30 points and eight assists and Briante Weber finished with 28 points and eight assists to lead the Sioux Falls Skyforce (20-6) past the Los Angeles D-Fenders (19-6), 118-113, in a matchup of the league’s top two teams on Saturday at the 2017 NBA Development League Showcase.
Keith Benson contributed a 24-point, 15-rebound double-double for the Skyforce, which won for the sixth time in seven games. Marcus Posley knocked down four three-pointers to finish with 12 points for Sioux Falls.
Vander Blue led Los Angeles with 28 points, including three three-pointers. Josh Magette recorded 19 points and a game-high 14 assists and Justin Harper added 19 points for the D-Fenders, who had their seven-game winning streak snapped.
Blue knocked down a three-pointer with 44.8 seconds left to get the D-Fenders within two, but the Skyforce held off the comeback attempt by hitting all three of its free throws in the final minute.
In a game with nine ties and six lead changes, Sioux Falls improved to 2-0 against Los Angeles and also became the first team to earn its 20th win of the season.
After trailing by seven early in the first quarter, the Skyforce used the rest of the period to outscore the D-Fenders by 15 to take an eight-point lead going into the second, 33-25. Los Angeles received a 10-point effort from Blue, while Sioux Falls relied on Benson and Weber, who each netted 10 points.
The D-Fenders trailed by 11 points in the second quarter before bouncing back to knot the game heading into halftime, 57-57. Magette scored 10 points in the quarter and Harper notched seven of his 13 first-half points for Los Angeles.
