SALT LAKE CITY (February 8, 2017) — It was close up until the final seconds, but the Salt Lake City Stars, the NBA D-League affiliate of the NBA’s Utah Jazz, were unable to overtake the Los Angeles D-Fenders and were defeated 103-100.
In their second consecutive loss to Los Angeles, the Stars were outscored in the third quarter, this time 29-19. The Stars rallied to bring the game within two points in the final minute of play, but the D-Fenders were held off the comeback attempt.
Salt Lake City was led by Jermaine Taylor and Marcus Paige who both finished with 23 points. Taylor has now scored 20-plus points in four of the last seven contests, averaging 20.6 ppg. Joel Bolomboy completed his 14th double-double of the season with 14 points and 14 rebounds. All five Stars starters finished in double figures.
Vander Blue of the D-Fenders led the game in scoring with 32 points. All five D-Fenders starters also finished in double figures.
The Stars were cheered on by over 600 children as part of the team’s first ever Kids’ Day. Schools from the surrounding Salt Lake City area participated in the event, where the students were dazzled by educational performances from Discovery Gateway and the Utah STEM Action Center.
