HIDALGO, Texas — The Rio Grande Valley Vipers (25-15), NBA D-League affiliate of the Houston Rockets, cruised to a 136-112 win over the Delaware 87ers (22-18).
Delaware’s Aaron Harrison scored 25 points to lead both teams in scoring. Gary Payton II had 23 points for the Vipers. Chris Walker had a double-double on the night with 11 rebounds and 22 points.
The Vipers used the first quarter to impose their pace and find their offensive rhythm. Kyle Wiltjer’s eight points in the opening quarter helped the Vipers obtain a double-digit lead over the 87ers. Isaiah Taylor added seven points in the second quarter to lead the Vipers 69-56 at the half.
Rio Grande Valley started to run away with the game in the third quarter. The Vipers outscored Delaware 41-28 in the quarter. Walker reached double-double figures with his five assists in the quarter. A balanced final quarter closed out the game 136-112.
The Rio Grande Valley Vipers shot at a 53.5 percent from the field and are undefeated when shooting at a 50 percent or better. At one point, the Vipers held a 30-point lead.
