Erie, PA (March 24, 2017) – The Erie BayHawks (13-33) came up short against the Raptors 905 (36-11) this evening inside Erie Insurance Arena in the first night of back-to-back contests, 97-92.
After being knotted up at 14 points with 4:07 left in the first quarter, the Raptors 905 proceeded to go on a 10-5 run. After one quarter of play tonight, the 905 held a five-point, 24-19 lead. The BayHawks narrowed the deficit to two points, 31-29, off of a pair of TJ Price free throws at the 5:37 mark of the second quarter. The Raptors 905 responded by going on a 10-2 run, building a 10-point, 41-31 lead with 2:48 left to play in the half. After two quarters of play, the Raptors 905 held a 49-39 lead.
The 905 extended their lead to 15 points, 70-55, off of a Will Sheehey triple with 2:33 left to play in the third quarter. The BayHawks found themselves in an 11-point hole, 73-62, heading into the fourth quarter of tonight’s contest. Erie opened up the final quarter on an 11-0 run, tying the game up at 73 points off of a Robert Vaden three-pointer at the 10:08 mark of the fourth. The tie didn’t last long, as the 905 went on an 8-3 run, to gain an 81-76 lead. The BayHawks would come within three, 91-88, but the 905 would end up winning tonight’s match, 97-92.
As a team, the BayHawks shot 12-29 (.414) from three-point territory. TJ Price finished with a game-high 26 points on 9-17 (.529) shooting from the floor, two rebounds and two steals in 32 minutes of action. Kalin Lucas dished out a game-high 10 assists, to go along with six points and three rebounds in 38 minutes. Shevon Thompson notched 14 points on 6-9 (.667) shooting, to go along with a team-high eight rebounds in 28 minutes. Robert Vaden registered 16 points in 23 minutes, while Gabe York contributed 12 points in 29 minutes as a reserve.
Brady Heslip recorded a team-high 24 points and two assists in 36 minutes for the 905. Heslip dropped 18 of his 24 points in the first half. CJ Leslie finished with a double-double, pouring in 16 points on 5-8 (.625) shooting, while pulling down a game-high 11 rebounds in 33 minutes of play.
The BayHawks will take the court again tomorrow night, in the second night of back-to-back contests against the Raptors 905, with tipoff slated for 7:00 PM ET.
