Hoffman Estates, IL — The Windy City Bulls (23-27), presented by BMO Harris Bank, the official NBA Development League affiliate of the Chicago Bulls, fell 93-82 to the Maine Red Claws in their inaugural season finale Saturday evening at the Sears Centre Arena.
David Laury III (21 points, seven rebounds) and Cartier Martin (19 points) both came off the bench to pace the Bulls in scoring. Alfonzo McKinnie added 10 points and nine rebounds while Wesley Saunders chipped in 10 points, seven rebounds and five assists.
The Red Claws (29-21) received 26 points and eight rebounds from Jordan Mickey as Maine avenged a 103-89 defeat to Windy City on March 6 in Hoffman Estates.
Maine stormed out to a 31-23 advantage after the first quarter and took a 55-49 lead into the locker room at halftime behind 17 first-half points from Guerschon Yabusele.
A layup by Martin gave the Bulls their first lead, 68-66, with 11:05 remaining in the fourth quarter but Maine quickly responded with back-to-back three-pointers by Cameron Ayers and Yabusele to regain the lead and eventually pull away.
Maine controlled the battle of the boards, out-rebounding Windy City 45-41 while also dishing out 20 assists compared to just 14 by the Bulls.
The Bulls, who along with the Greensboro Swarm (19-31) and Long Island Nets (17-33) joined the NBA Development League this season, conclude the season with 23 wins behind head coach Nate Loenser. Chicago native Alfonzo McKinnie finished the season averaging 15 points and 9.2 rebounds per game after making the team in an open try-out and earning an NBA Development League All-Star selection.
