ONTARIO, Calif. – The Iowa Wolves (1-1) were outscored 34-18 in the fourth quarter as the Agua Caliente Clippers of Ontario (2-1) picked up their first home win of the season by the final score of 109-91 Tuesday night.
Point guard Tyrone Wallace paced the Clippers with an impressive stat line of 27 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and two steals.
C.J. Williams added 21 points for Ontario, including 4-for-6 shooting from the 3-point line. As a team, the Clippers shot 44 percent from deep (11-for-25).
Elijah Millsap poured in a game-high 28 points off the bench for Iowa on 7-for-13 shooting from the field, including 4-for-7 from deep. The UAB alum also added 10 points from the charity stripe (10-for-11).
A hard-fought battle for three quarters, the teams swapped leads seven times, the last occurring with 17 seconds left in the third quarter when the Clippers took a 75-73 lead.
The Wolves made just six 3-pointers on the evening as a team, marking a new season low. Iowa did take advantage when getting to the line, hitting 29-of-33 free throws (88 percent).
Amile Jefferson recorded his second double-double in as many outings for the Wolves. The Duke product finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Melo Trimble continued his strong start to the season as an affiliate player for Iowa, finishing with 17 points and a team-high five assists. Anthony Brown added 12 points, seven rebounds and two assists.
