WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. — The Westchester Knicks (5-3), the official NBA G League affiliate of the New York Knickerbockers, snapped its opponent’s five-game winning streak, defeating the Lakeland Magic (5-2), the Orlando Magic’s affiliate, with a 106-100 win at home.
Knicks affiliate player Trey Burke poured in a game-high 27 points, just missing a double-double with nine assists and four rebounds. On assignment from the New York Knicks, Damyean Dotson supplied 23 points to go with six rebounds and three assists while Knicks Two-Way player Isaiah Hicks finished with 16 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and four blocks. Affiliate Xavier Rathan-Mayes grabbed 14 rebounds and forced five steals along with eight points, his fellow affiliate Nigel Hayes contributing 13 points, seven rebounds, and three steals from the bench.
Both players on assignment from the Orlando Magic finished with double-doubles in the loss; Wes Iwundu with 23 points and 13 rebounds, Khem Birch with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Magic Two-Way player Jamel Artis, who was with the New York Knicks in training camp, knocked in 20 points as did his teammate Rodney Purvis. Rounding out the starting five’s double-digit scoring was Troy Caupain, who provided 15 points, five rebounds, and four assists.
Lakeland came into White Plains riding a five-game winning streak, which was apparent in a lopsided 26-19 first quarter. It looked as though the second would bring the same as the Magic ran up a 10-point lead, but Westchester immediately turned things around with a 17-6 run to take a one-point lead. Heading into the half, the Knicks trailed by just two.
The Magic continued to lead through the majority of the third quarter, but never by more than five points. The tides turned with 3:55 to go though as jumper from Isaiah Hicks put Westchester back ahead, where it stayed until the end.
The Westchester Knicks will travel to North Carolina on Friday, Nov. 24 for a 2:00 p.m. matchup against the Greensboro Swarm, the Charlotte Hornets’ affiliate. The game will be broadcast live on MSG Networks and will be available streaming via MSG GO and Facebook Live.
