CEDAR PARK, TEXAS — The Salt Lake City Stars (2-10) were able to withstand a late comeback by the Austin Spurs (8-4) to secure their second win of the season, 102-97, Saturday night at the H-E-B Center in Cedar City, Texas.
The Stars started off hot, scoring the first nine points of the game and built a double-digit lead to end the first quarter on .591 shooting from the field and hitting 5-of-7 from downtown. Salt Lake City would lead by as many as 15 midway through the second frame before Austin would go on a 15-8 run to cut their deficit to eight leading into the break.
Salt Lake City began the second half on a 16-9 run and would build a 21-point lead with 3:19 left in the third quarter. The Stars double-digit lead continued well into the fourth quarter before the Spurs got as close as three before the final buzzer sounded.
Utah Jazz assignee Tony Bradley recorded a double-double with a game-high tying 28 points and pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds. Jermaine Taylor came off the bench to chip in 24 points, hitting 4-of-6 from beyond the arc. Nate Wolters was one assist shy of his own double-double, contributing 12 points and dishing out nine assists.
Olivier Hanlan led the Spurs with a game-high tying 28 points, while Darrun Hilliard dropped in 19 points in 18 minutes of action.
