WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. — The Westchester Knicks (9-4), the official NBA G League affiliate of the New York Knickerbockers, avenged its previous to the Maine Red Claws (7-5), the Boston Celtics’ affiliate, backed by a 39-point performance from Knicks affiliate Trey Burke.
Along with his 39 points, Burke provided six assists and three steals. Knicks Two-Way player Luke Kornet tallied 18 points with five rebounds in the win, the Knicks’ other Two-Way player Isaiah Hicks finishing with 16 points, eight rebounds, and a block. Knicks affiliate Nigel Hayes contributed 12 points, eight rebounds, four steals, and three assists; Xavier Rathan-Mayes notching a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds on top of six assists and two steals. Coming off the bench, guard Billy Garrett reached a career-high 12 points with five rebounds.
Trey Davis and L.J. Peak led Maine off the bench with 19 points and two rebounds each, Davis also providing five assists and four steals. Starter Andrew White contributed 14 points while Devin Williams had 14 from the pine to go with five rebounds. Celtics Two-Way player Jabari Bird finished with nine points and three rebounds, Kadeem Allen with five points, four rebounds, and three assists.
The teams kept it close throughout the first half, neither team taking more than a five-point lead while switching leads nine times. The Knicks’ shots were slightly more efficient, the home team shooting 50 percent to Maine’s 45 percent, which would be the first sign of the second half to come. Westchester gave up 17 points to turnovers though, and held just a one-point lead heading into the locker room.
The second half was dominated by the Knicks and its leading shooter, Trey Burke, who scored 14 points in the third and 13 in the fourth. The third quarter was especially dismal for the Red Claws, who shot just 35.3 percent from the field. Westchester stayed consistent from the first half, especially hitting its stride in the fourth, hitting 61.9 percent of its shots. With a 117-94, the Knicks tied up the season series 1-1.
The Westchester Knicks are back at home for a 7:00 p.m. matchup on Wednesday, Dec. 6 against the Fort Wayne Mad Ants, the Indiana Pacers’ affiliate. The game will be available streaming via MSG GO and Facebook Live.
The Maine Red Claws travel to play its next game, also on Wednesday, against the Windy City Bulls, the Chicago Bulls’ affiliate, at 11:00 a.m.
