AUSTIN, Texas — The Austin Spurs, presented by SWBC, defeated the Rio Grande Valley Vipers by a final score 111-95 at the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park Friday night.
On assignment from the San Antonio Spurs, Derrick White paced the Spurs with 18 points (7-12 FG, 2-4 3FG, 2-2 FT) to go along with 3 rebounds in 19 minutes. Livio Jean-Charles contributed with 17 points (7-8 FG, 1-1 3FG, 2-2 FT) and 7 rebounds in 23 minutes off the bench.
Austin (10-7) built an early double-digit lead in the first quarter by scoring 12 points off of nine Viper turnovers. A late 14-6 run at the end of the second quarter, including a buzzer beating floater by Jeff Ledbetter, gave the Spurs a 60-46 lead at halftime. Austin went on a 20-6 run midway in the second half to take their largest lead of 24 points. The Spurs sustained their double-digit lead to close out the game.
For Rio Grande Valley (14-5), Isaiah Hartenstein led the Vipers with 16 points and 8 rebounds in 23 minutes, while two-way player Briante Weber contributed with 15 points and 3 assists in 28 minutes.
