HIDALGO, Texas – The NBA G League’s Rio Grande Valley Vipers defeated Texas Legends 137-129. Demetrius Jackson led the Vipers in scoring with 28 points.
The Vipers shot well throughout the game, finishing the night with a 57 field goal percentage. Julien Lewis had 22 points in the game, going 6-of-6 from beyond the three-point line. Chris Walker collected a double-double for the Vipers with 19 points and 11 rebounds.
Wade Baldwin IV and Justin Dentmon carried the heavy workload for the Legends offensively. Baldwin IV had 32 points while Dentmon had 45 points for the away team.
Rio Grande Valley Vipers were able to distance themselves from Texas early in the game. After obtaining the 29-24 lead in the first quarter, the Vipers maintained that lead throughout the entirety of the game.
The Vipers’ second quarter played an important role in tonight’s win. RGV was able to outscore the Legends 41-28 in said quarter. Shane Richards’ nine points in the second quarter helped set up the tempo offensively. At one point, the Vipers held a 20-point lead.
The Legends entered the third quarter trailing 70-52, but they started cutting into the home team’s lead. Texas had their best performance during the third quarter, scoring 43 points. Justin Dentmon had 17 points in the third quarter.
Texas Legends were able to cut the lead to single digits with 4:48 left in the game. Demetrius Jackson scored eight of the Vipers’ last 15 points to help the Vipers secure their 15th win of the season.
