GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Greensboro Swarm (7-12) and Lakeland Magic (13-5) went back-and-forth on Saturday night at the Fieldhouse at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex but it was the Magic’s 8-0 run to close the game that sealed a, 106-102, Swarm defeat. Lakeland has won seven straight games.
Greensboro held a, 102-98, lead with 3:18 remaining in the fourth quarter after a Luke Petrasek three-point shot but the Swarm offense stalled and finished the game 0-for-6 from the field. Magic guard Troy Caupain tied the game with a pair of free throws and then center Khem Birch put Lakeland on top, 104-102, on a putback layup with :38.8 left. Lakeland guard Rodney Purvis hit pressure free-throws in the remaining seconds to seal the game.
Swarm guard Archie Goodwin led all players with 31 points on 10-of-17 shooting, to go with six rebounds and four assists. Goodwin has scored at least 20 points in three of his four games with Greensboro. Center L.G. Gill had his second double-double in as many nights, scoring 17 points and pulling down 10 boards.
The Magic had two 20-point scorers, Caupain with a team-high 27 and Purvis who added 25. Caupain also pulled down 10 rebounds for a double-double. Lakeland had five players total in double figures, guard Kevin Foster (13 points), forward T.J. Price (11) and forward Xavier Gibson (10) joining Caupain and Purvis.
