OSHKOSH, Wis. – The Wisconsin Herd (15-8), the NBA G League affiliate of the Milwaukee Bucks, defeated the Canton Charge (8-13) 128-126 in a home-and-home series. The Herd secured a 139-119 victory in the previous meeting on Saturday, Dec. 30.
Canton held the advantage throughout the first half, outscoring Wisconsin in both quarters, 76-58. The Charge carried the lead into the fourth quarter. The Herd secured a 12-point advantage at the 5:16 mark in the final frame. Canton battled back within one point with 25 second remaining. The Herd held onto the lead and sealed the win off of two free throws by Cliff Alexander.
Alexander notched the lone double-double for Wisconsin, netting 25 points and hauling in 12 rebounds. In his first game with the Herd, Washington Wizards assignee Chris McCullough tallied 11 points and six rebounds in 18 minutes. Bucks assignee D.J. Wilson added 15 points for Wisconsin. Herd guard Xavier Munford led all scorers with 31 points, shooting 12-of-13 from the field and 4-of-5 from beyond the arc.
Seven players from the Charge scored in double figures, totaling 122 points of the team’s 126 final count. Cleveland Cavaliers assignee Caleb Swanigan chalked up a double-double, scoring 28 points and grabbing 15 rebounds. Canton guard Marcus Thornton registered 24 points in 33 minutes. Cavaliers Two-Way player London Perrantes recorded 11 points and nine assists.
The Herd hits the road for two games before the NBA G League Showcase in Mississauga, Ontario. Wisconsin faces the Grand Rapids Drive on Friday, Jan. 5 and the Windy City Bulls on Saturday, Jan. 6.
