LAKELAND, Fla. — The Lakeland Magic (15-13), the NBA G League affiliate of the Orlando Magic, defeated the Greensboro Swarm (9-20) 116-114 with an overtime win in front of a home crowd at the RP Funding Center. Affiliate player Rodney Purvis hit two free throws with 2.2 seconds left in the game to take the lead. The Magic then turned to their defense to hold onto the win with a last-second shot attempt by the Swarm.
Both two-way players Adreian Payne and Jamel Artis landed a double-double scoring 24 points, 13 rebounds and 23 points, 12 rebounds respectively. Affiliate Player Rodney Purvis had 21 points on the night. Returning rights player TJ Price had 19 points and returning rights player John Petrucelli came off the bench to contribute a solid 14 points.
For the Swarm, two-way player Marcus Paige had 23 points. Acquired Player, Cat Barber had 22 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists. Acquired Player, Roscoe Smith had a double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds. Returning Rights Player, Sam Thompson had 16 points while Assignment Player, Terry Henderson posted 15 points.
It was a close matchup going into the half with the Magic up 64-62 and the game remained close until the finish. The Magic outscored the Swarm in the third quarter 29-24 but the Swarm stung back outscoring the Magic 23-16 to force overtime. The final few seconds came down to defense as the Magic got the stop with a final shot at the buzzer.
The Magic play their next game in Canton, Ohio against the Canton Charge on Friday, January 26, at 7 p.m. The Magic took home the victory against the Charge, in their previous matchup.
