Des Moines, Iowa — Despite shooting over 50 percent from the field, the Iowa Wolves (15-13) lost, 124-114, to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers (19-12) Wednesday night at Wells Fargo Arena.
The Wolves shot 51.1 percent (45-88) from the floor while the Vipers shot only 44.6 percent (41-92).
For the Vipers, former Iowa State guard and Denver Nuggets assignee Monte Morris finished with 21 points, seven rebounds and 6 assists. Former Iowa forward Troy Williams recorded 23 points and seven rebounds off the bench for Rio Grande Valley and RJ Hunter also tallied 23 points.
For the Wolves, Amile Jefferson recorded a team-high 22 points and game-high 16 rebounds in 34 minutes of action. The two-way forward notched his 18th double-double of the season.
Minnesota Timberwolves first-round draft pick Justin Patton finished in double figures for the fifth straight game, totaling 17 points and nine rebounds. The former Bluejay finished one rebound shy of capturing his first NBA G League double-double in each of his last two games.
All starters finished in double figures for the Wolves with each scoring at least 14 points.
Rio Grande Valley went 31-of-40 (77.5%) from the free throw line, eclipsing the 30-point threshold for the third time this season. Iowa finished 16-of-24 (66.7%) from the charity stripe.
Wes Washpun led the second unit with 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting. Washpun also led the team with two blocked shots.
Anthony Brown added 16 points and seven rebounds. Michael Bryson finished with 17 points and a team-high three three-pointers made.
