HIDALGO, Tex. — The NBA G League’s Rio Grande Valley Vipers, affiliate of the Houston Rockets, could not get back to the winning column after suffering a 133-147 defeat to Sioux Falls Skyforce.
RJ Hunter led the RGV Vipers in scoring with 35 points. He added 13 rebounds to collect a double-double on the night. Monte Morris had a double-double with 12 assists and 16 points.
Skyforce’s Ike Nwamu had a game-high 37 points. Briante Weber had 11 rebounds and 20 points in the game.
Rio Grande Valley’s RJ Hunter and Sioux Falls’ Ike Nwamu found success from beyond the three-point line in the opening quarter. Hunter went two-of-two from beyond the arc while Nwamu scored four three-point field goals. The Vipers were able to close the quarter with a 34-31 lead after a great finishing with a great field goal percentage, .583.
The second quarter had four lead changes after a single lead change in the first quarter. Skyforce’s Tony Mitchell had a quarter-high 15 points, going three-of-four from three-point range. Mitchell’s buzzer beating three-pointer tied things up at 66 points at the half.
The Vipers held the lead for the majority of the third quarter. Skyforce finished the third quarter with a 20-3 run. After going scoreless in the first half, Skyforce’s Matt Williams Jr. scored nine points in the third quarter. The Vipers entered the final quarter trailing 95-107.The Skyforce kept their rhythm in the closing quarter to hold on to the road win.
