PORTLAND, Maine — The Maine Red Claws, presented by Unum, got a little home cooking Sunday afternoon, snapping an 8-game losing streak with a 112-109 win over the Windy City Bulls.
Maine (17-23) got huge performances by Kadeem Allen (28 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists) and Boston Celtics assignee Guerschon Yabusele (23 points, 16 rebounds, 5 assists). Daniel Dixon added 24 points, including 6-11 from downtown. The Red Claws made 20 three-pointers. Vitto Brown added 13 points, and Trey Davis knocked in two huge buckets at the end of the game to put it away.
Windy City (17-22) was led by Antonio Blakeney with 37 points on 12-25 shooting.
The Red Claws started with two quick buckets by Brown and Dixon, respectively. Dingle dropped in a three-point play to put the Red Claws up 7-0. Brown continued a scorching-hot start, dropping in back-to-back three’s. Allen’s strong rebound and lay-up gave Maine an 18-12 lead. Yabusele rocked the rim to maintain the 6 point lead. The Red Claws led 23-16 after the 1st quarter, with Windy City shooting just 21.1 percent (4-19) from the field.
Yabusele opened the 2nd quarter with a three-pointer. The Bulls went on the run, with Jaylen Johnson knocking down a 15-footer to cut it to 26-24. Davis stopped the run with a three-pointer. Dixon buried a corner three to put Maine up 8. Ryan Arcidiacono dropped in a three-point play to give Windy City a 47-46 lead. Peak beat the shot clock with a long three, and Allen rattled in a three to give Maine a 57-51 halftime lead. Dixon led Maine with 16 points in the first half.
In the 3rd, Yabusele dropped in a bucket down low for his 10th points, and Dixon dropped in a long two. Blakeney and the Bulls went on a run to cut the deficit to 70-66. Dixon buried a pair of three’s to continue his hot offensive game. Yabusele beat the shot clock late in the quarter, and the Red Claws took an 84-79 lead after 3.
Peak dropped in a three to open the 4th quarter, with Yabusele dropping in a three-pointer to make it 90-82 Claws. The Dancing Bear followed that up with another three to put the Claws up 11. Blakeney got the Bulls back into the game from the free throw line. Allen and Blakeney started matching shots down the stretch. Windy City got within two points, but Allen found Davis for a tough floating shot to make it 109-105 in the final minute. Blakeney buried a long 2 to make it 109-107. Davis buried a deep three to put the game away.
Maine shot 51.2 percent(44-86) from the field, 45.5% (20-44) from three-point range, and 4-8 from the free throw line. Windy City shot 41.9% (36-86) from the floor, 22.7 percent (5-22) from downtown and 32-34 from the charity stripe.
