LONG ISLAND, N.Y. — Christian Wood poured in 49 points in 39 minutes to lead the Delaware 87ers (14-32) to a 123-115 win over the Long Island Nets (25-20) on Sunday afternoon at NYCB LIVE, home of Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. It was the third and final meeting of the season between the clubs, with Long Island taking the series 2-1.
Delaware forward Wood registered a game-high 46 points with 19 rebounds. Center Cameron Oliver also notched a double-double for the visitors with 15 points and 10 rebounds in 27 minutes. Including Wood and Oliver, seven of Delaware’s nine players scored in double figures in the game.
Brooklyn Nets assignee Isaiah Whitehead tallied a team-high 27 points with three rebounds and two assists in 31 minutes, while forward James Webb III contributed 20 points, nine rebounds and two assists in 33 minutes and center Kamari Murphy added 20 points and five rebounds in 32 minutes.
Despite trailing after the first quarter, the Nets tallied a 40-point second quarter to take a 66-61 lead at the half. It was just the third 40-point quarter for Long Island this season, with all three coming in the Nets’ last six contests. Nets guard Jeremy Senglin tallied 16 of his 18 total points in the second quarter alone, shooting 100 percent from the field (6-of-6) and 3-point range (4-of-4) in the period. The lead didn’t last long for the Nets, who were outscored 28-14 in the third quarter and ultimately fell by eight.
