MISSISSAUGA, ONT. — The recently signed two-way player for the Philadelphia 76ers, James Young, impressed in Day 2 of the 2018 NBA G League Showcase. Young has been a prolific scorer this entire NBA G League season, ranking in the top-10 for scoring (22.3 ppg), and produced another solid line in his Delaware 87ers debut. Young tallied 23 points (7-15 FG) and 3 rebounds in a 131-106 win over the Salt Lake City Stars.
Young, who was a first-round draft pick in the 2014 NBA Draft, hasn’t fully established himself at the NBA level yet in his short career, but this season playing with the Wisconsin Herd as an unsigned player, he gained confidence, and saw his production skyrocket.
Now as a signed player in Philadelphia’s organization, it is a new beginning for Young, and he is ready for the challenge.
“I’m just taking it day by day. Just going to work hard. I’m grateful – it’s a blessing to be a part of this team,” said Young.
Young said he relished the chance to perform in front of numerous scouts and front office members and the opportunity to prove his worth with NBA eyes watching.
“I just make sure that I go out and play basketball. That is what I have been doing my whole life. The good stuff that happens with it is just me playing the game. There are a lot of guys here which is cool to see, but at the same time it is intense competition, so you have to come out here and play hard, and that is what I am doing.”
