MISSISSAUGA, Ont. — Northern Arizona Suns point guard Josh Gray tipped off the 2018 NBA G League Showcase in emphatic fashion, pouring in 24 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists in the 102-96 win over the Erie BayHawks.
Gray has been a bright spot for Northern Arizona all season, and has established himself as one of the premier, unsigned point guards that are competing this season in the NBA G League. Coming into the Showcase with season averages of 16.8 points and 6.0 assists per game, it is no surprise that he kicked off his 2018 Showcase with a stat-stuffing performance.
Individual stats are always a plus, but a true leader on the court cares about team victories, and Gray expressed just that when asked about how he thought he played yesterday.
“People forget that we lost five straight games recently, so today I wasn’t just focused on, ‘Oh it’s a Showcase, let’s show everyone what I got,’ I was more focused on getting the win and turning this thing around. And that is the attitude that I made sure I had coming into this week.”
NBA scouts and front office members are scattered throughout the arena this week watching these teams compete, and undoubtedly Gray should be on many NBA teams ‘top priority’ list. With the performance he had yesterday, he is off to a great start in further making a case for why he should get a chance at the next level.
