2018 NBA G League Showcase Spotlight: Lorenzo Brown

MISSISSAUGA, Ont. — Lorenzo Brown, a two-way player for the Toronto Raptors, has been impressive all season long in the NBA G League, playing for Raptors 905. Today, in a dominating 109-83 win over the Santa Cruz Warriors, Brown poured in 24 points (10-for-18 FG) and dished out 12 assists.

Brown knows the importance of being a floor general, and talked a bit about what it is like to have the responsibility in getting his teammates involved.

“It’s been a great experience so far,” Brown said. “It is my job as a point guard to make everybody that I’m playing around better, and I think I have been doing that for a while now. And at the end of the day, what ever the team needs me to do I will do it.”

Lorenzo Brown ranks in the top-5 for assists per game in the NBA G League with 9.0 per game. The impressive numbers continue, as Brown came into Thursday’s matchup being only 1 of 17 other NBA G League players averaging more than 20 points per game (20.4).

As a two-way player, Brown goes up and down from the NBA to the NBA G League frequently, and in doing so his role changes. He takes it all in stride, however, and appreciates the opportunity.

“I have a role to play,” he explained. “At the end of the day, it is your job to play your role. I have a role when I am up there, and when I am down here. I feel like I am more aggressive when I am down here, and when the time comes when I am going to be aggressive up there, I will take that approach.”

Brown, and 905 teammate Malcolm Miller have very unique opportunities tonight. After playing substantial minutes in the Showcase game this afternoon with Raptors 905, they will suit up for the parent team, Toronto Raptors tonight as they host the defending Eastern Conference Champions, Cleveland Cavaliers.
