DeAndre Liggins Presented With NBA D-League Championship Ring Before Cavs-Heat

Before he was thrust into a larger role for his new team, the defending NBA champion Cleveland Cavaliers, DeAndre Liggins won a championship of his own with the Sioux Falls Skyforce last season. An athletic wing, Liggins was named the NBA D-League’s Defensive Player of the Year in 2015-16 (his second time winning the award) while also helping lead Sioux Falls, the Miami Heat affiliate, to one of the most successful seasons in NBA D-League history, culminating a championship victory over the Los Angeles D-Fenders.

More recently, Liggins stepped into a bigger role with the Cavs as a result of an injury to fellow guard and teammate J.R. Smith and is averaging just under 23 minutes a night over Cleveland’s last three games.

On Friday night, his current team and his former organization met each other on the court when the Heat traveled to Cleveland to face the Cavs. Liggins scored five points, blocked three shots and added a steal in 26 minutes. Before the game, however, Liggins was surprised by his former coach and presented with his NBA D-League championship ring.
