How They Got Here

Erie BayHawks: In the first season as a franchise, the BayHawks started the season slow, dropping their first four games in a row and starting the first 15 games at 5-10. But the Atlanta Hawks’ affiliate heated up in January, going on an 11-3 run from Dec. 28-Feb. 2.

Hawks two-way player Josh Magette has become a big leader in the locker room when with Erie, having experienced four seasons in the NBA G League, including a run to the NBA G League Finals with the then-Los Angeles D-Fenders in 2016. Erie ranks fifth in assists per game (23.9) this season, in large part due to Magette’s league-leading 10.2 dimes per contest.

Lakeland Magic: Earning the final seed in the Eastern Conference on the last day of the regular season, Lakeland has been a streaky team throughout the season. The perfect example is the run to the playoffs, as the Magic finished the season winning eight of their final nine games.

Lakeland is led by two-way player Jamel Artis, but has also been paced as of late by Ohio State product Byron Mullens, who was brought in during the beginning of March. The NBA G League Player of the Week two weeks ago is averaging 19.6 points, 11 rebounds and 2.7 assists in just 11 games played (10 starts).
