Maine Red Claws And Canton Charge Complete Trade

Maine Red Claws Release:

PORTLAND, Maine – September 25, 2017 – The Maine Red Claws, presented by Unum, announced today that the team has completed a trade with the Canton Charge, swapping rights to multiple players as well as draft picks.

The Red Claws receive the returning player rights to Jonathan Holmes and Daniel Coursey, as well as Canton’s original third round pick in the 2017 NBA G League Draft.

In return, Canton receives the returning player rights to Marcus Thornton, Arthur Edwards, Jalen Jones and Maine’s original second round selection in the 2017 NBA G League Draft.

Holmes (6-9, 242) is a forward and a product of the University of Texas. In 30 games last season with the Charge (20 starts), Holmes averaged 12.8 points and 6.5 rebounds. Holmes also played 10 games last season overseas for FC Barcelona Lassa (Spain). Holmes was on the Boston Celtics’ NBA Summer League roster in 2015-16, playing in eight games.

Coursey (6-10, 220) is no stranger to the NBA G League. The forward out of Mercer played two seasons in the G League, with Erie and Santa Cruz.

 

Canton Charge Release:

The Canton Charge, powered by the Cleveland Cavaliers, have acquired the rights to forward Jalen Jones, guard Marcus Thornton, forward Arthur Edwards and Maine’s 2017 NBA G League Draft Second Round Pick in exchange for the rights to forward Jonathan Holmes, center Daniel Coursey and Canton’s 2017 NBA G League Draft Third Round Pick.

Jones (6-7, 220, Texas A&M) is currently under contract with the New Orleans Pelicans as a Two-Way Player. The Charge will retain his rights should he become a free agent before returning to the NBA G League. In 48 games with Maine last season (46 starts), Jones averaged 21 points on .446 shooting with 9.0 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.0 steal in 36.0 minutes per game. Jones also started all five Maine playoff games last season and averaged 15.6 points on .475 shooting with 8.8 rebounds in 33.8 minutes per game. He was originally signed by the Boston Celtics as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2016.

Thornton (6-4, 190, William & Mary) was with Consultinvest VL Pesaro of Italy’s Serie A in 2016-17, playing in 30 games (21 starts) and averaging 12.4 points, 2.1 rebounds and 2.8 assists in . Thornton was drafted by the Celtics with the 15th pick in the Second Round of the 2015 NBA Draft before spending the 2015-16 season with Maine in the NBA G League as well as Sydney of the NBL in Australia.

Edwards (6-6, 210, Alabama) played in 47 games (three starts) for Maine in his rookie season in 2016-17, averaging 7.5 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 20.6 minutes per game. Edwards also played in all five postseason contests for Maine, averaging 5.8 points, 1.4 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 20.4 minutes per game.

Holmes played in 30 games for Canton last season (20 starts) and averaged 12.8 points on .440 shooting with 6.5 rebounds and 1.0 steal in 28.4 minutes per game. Coursey never played for the Charge, last playing professionally in 2015-16 for the Erie BayHawks and Santa Cruz Warriors.
