Jack Cooley Drops 36 and 11 in Reno Debut
In Jack Cooley’s debut with the Reno Bighorns, he went off for a career-high 36 points (on 15-for-17 shooting), 11 rebounds and two steals. The 6-10, 274-lb. big man from Notre Dame is looking to earn his way back into the NBA on a two-way deal with the Sacramento Kings this season. Cooley has averaged 17.0 points, 12.3 rebounds, 1.1 assists, one steal and one block in 27 G League games played, and owns the league’s single-game rebounding record of 29.
Quinn Cook Goes for 65-13-12 in First Two Games
Golden State prospect Quinn Cook showed off his abilities on both sides of the floor in the Santa Cruz Warriors’ first two games of the season, going for 30 points, seven assists and five rebounds in Santa Cruz’s season opener against the Agua Caliente Clippers on Friday. He followed that up with 35 points (on 11-for-20 shooting), seven rebounds and six assists on Saturday. The 2016 NBA G League Rookie of the Year, two-time All-Star and 2017 NBA G League All-Star Game MVP has averaged 22.6 points, 6.0 assists, 4.0 rebounds and 1.2 steals in his two years, including 26.0 points and 6.7 assists with the Canton Charge in 2016-17.
Luis Montero Showcases Flashy Dunks
Luis Montero unleashed two monster dunks in the Grand Rapids Drive’s 86-85 season-opening victory over the Erie Bayhawks. Montero had 14 points, 11 rebounds, four assists and one steal in the opener on Friday, and followed it up with a 20-point night in the team’s second game on Sunday against the Raptors 905. Montero suited up for both the Reno Bighorns and the Sioux Falls Skyforce in 2016-17, where he averaged 8.8 points, and 6.5 rebounds per game in 49 total games.
Eric Griffin Drops 25 and 7 in Second Game
Two-way player Eric Griffin has started the season strong for the Salt Lake City Stars. In his second game of the young season, against Memphis, he racked up 25 points on 9-for-11 shooting (2-for-3 from deep), while adding seven rebounds and three blocks. Griffin, who is on a two-way deal with the Stars, spent the 2016-17 season with Hapoel Gilboa Galil of the Israeli Basketball Premier League. In 33 games for Gilboa Galil, he averaged 14.9 points, 7.1 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.0 steals and 1.8 blocks per game.
Isaiah Hicks Records Double-Double
In the second G League regular season action of his career, Isaiah Hicks scored 15 points to go with 12 rebounds, while adding a pair of blocks and an assist. Hicks also started in the team’s season opener against the Windy City Bulls, where he put up 14 points (on 5-for-6 shooting) and six rebounds in the Knicks’ 114-102 victory. Last season, the Oxford, North Carolina-native averaged 11.8 points and 5.5 rebounds in his senior year for the 2017 NCAA National Champion North Carolina Tar Heels.
