The Canton Charge (7-4) finished their homestand strong with a 107-90 victory over the Delaware 87ers (3-7) at the Memorial Civic Center on Saturday night. The win was Canton’s sixth in their last seven games.
The 87ers jumped to an early 26-24 lead after one period of play. Canton proceeded to outscore the visitors 24-18 in the second stanza and never looked back. A season-high 39-point third quarter for the home team, which included buckets on nine of ten possessions at one point, gave the Charge an 87-70 advantage heading into the fourth quarter. Canton led by double digits for the final 16:48 of the game, as they handed Delaware their sixth-straight loss.
Five Charge players scored in double figures led by Stephen Holt’s season-high 21 points on 8-of-13 shooting in 34 minutes of action. Cavaliers assignee Alex Kirk registered his fourth double-double of the season, scoring 20 points and grabbing 11 rebounds with three blocks in 33 minutes. Arinze Onuaku came off the bench to add 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting with eight boards in 22 minutes. Canton dished out 24 assists as a team in tonight’s contest.
Delaware’s Drew Gordon, a college teammate of Kirk’s at New Mexico, led the 87ers with 21 points on 9-of-13 shooting with eight rebounds in a 40 minutes. Malcolm Lee, fresh off of a stint with the Philadelphia 76ers, poured in 16 points all the while adding five dimes off the bench in his return to the 87ers.
