BAKERSFIELD – The Santa Cruz Warriors defeated the Bakersfield Jam 113-99 on Saturday to clinch the West Division and earn the No. 1 overall seed in the NBA D-League Western Conference Playoffs. Saturday’s victory over the Jam marks Santa Cruz’s first Division title in franchise history, as it finishes the regular season with a franchise-best record of 35-14.
Santa Cruz was paced by Golden State Warriors assignment player, Ognjen Kuzmic, who finished with 30 points and seven rebounds. Elliot Williams had 22 points, eight rebounds and six assists.
Bakersfield received a solid performance from Casey Prather, who finished with 25 points. Xavier Munford logged 18 points.
Santa Cruz got a hot start in the early minutes of the opening frame, outscoring Bakersfield 33-19 and holding the Jam to a 36 percent shooting effort. Santa Cruz would continue to increase its distance from the Jam in the second quarter, leading by as many as 26 points. Five different players for Santa Cruz entered the break scoring in double-figures with Kuzmic leading all scorers with 18 points.
The Warriors would never relinquish their hold on the contest despite 31 points by the Jam in the fourth quarter.
