NEWARK, DE – November 23, 2015 – The Delaware 87ers dropped a tight one on Monday night, falling 123-117 to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers at the Bob Carpenter Center.
The 87ers were led by a professional career high from Sean Kilpatrick, who scored 36 points on 13-of-24 from the field and five-of-eight from beyond the arc, and a season high 34 points on 12-of-24 shooting from Jordan McRae. John Bohannon chipped in 14 points and nine rebounds, and Rysheed Jordan added 10 points off the bench.
All five of the visiting Vipers’ starters finished with double-digit point totals, led by 21 points from University of Delaware product Jarvis Threatt, and big man Joshua Smith recorded19 points and 13 rebounds. Forward Raphiael Putney added 16 points and 12 rebounds, and Denzel Livingston put up 20 points off the bench.
Kilpatrick came out of the gates hot, scoring 14 points in the first quarter, but the 87ers trailed 33-25 after one.
Rio Grande Valley shot over 50 percent from the field and beyond the arc in the first two quarters, and took a 63-51 lead into halftime.
In the third quarter, Jordan led a surge off the bench scoring eight points in the period which included back-to-back three-pointers within 18 seconds of each other.
The 87ers scored 33 points in each of the final two quarters, but their second half comeback fell short and resulted in the team’s second straight defeat.
