The Canton Charge (14-13) held off the Iowa Energy (12-15), 87-83, in Des Moines on Saturday night. The win gives Canton a 9-2 record to finish the month of January, including 7-1 on the road.
Canton’s John Holland scored a season-high 31 points on 7-of-13 shooting, including 6-of-6 from the foul line, in 33 minutes. Quinn Cook scored 17 points, grabbed five rebounds, and grabbed a season-high four steals in 35 minutes. Nick Minnerath added 13 points off the bench, while Jon Horford scored nine points and had 11 rebounds in 29 minutes.
Minnerath’s putback off an offensive rebound with 2.6 seconds sealed the victory for the Charge after they led for the entire second half. The game’s only lead change came when trailing 24-18 to start the second, the Charge hit 13-of-20 from the field (65%) and outscored Iowa 33-19 to go into intermission. Both teams surrendered nine turnovers and each shot below 40% from the field in the second half.
The Energy were led by Andrew Harrison with 24 points, four rebounds and five assists. Alex Stepheson posted his 19th double-double in the last 20 games with 17 points and 21 rebounds. The Charge were led by John Holland with 21 points and one rebound.
