ERIE, PA – February 3, 2016 – The Delaware 87ers fell on the road to the Erie BayHawks by a score of 100-97 on Wednesday afternoon at the Erie Insurance Arena.
Delaware (17-14) was led by Earl Clark, who scored a game-high 28 points and grabbed a team-high 14 rebounds. Russ Smith contributed 22 points, seven rebounds and seven assists in his first game since being named NBA D-League Performer of the Week on Monday. In his first game back from being called-up by the Denver Nuggets, Sean Kilpatrick finished with 16 points and three assists in 39 minutes off the bench.
Melvin Ejim paced the BayHawks (11-17) with 24 points, 13 rebounds and four assists in the team’s second-straight victory. Nnanna Egwu recorded a game-high 15 rebounds in addition to 12 points, while Jordan Sibert put up 19 points for Erie.
Clark was feeling it early on, scoring 14 points and grabbing five rebounds in the first quarter to lead the 87ers, who trailed 30-23 after one.
The 87ers bench combined to score 14 points in the second, but Delaware wasn’t able to chip away at the BayHawks advantage, who led 56-46 at halftime.
Delaware shot 10-of-17 from the floor (59 percent) in the third quarter to score 26 points, but still trailed Erie 79-72 after three.
Smith scored 10 of his 22 points in the fourth quarter, but Delaware couldn’t close the deal late. The lead changed hands six times in the final 12 minutes of play after the 87ers hadn’t held a lead all game prior to the fourth.
