WILMINGTON, Del. — Dionte Christmas posted a team-high 27 points as the Delaware 87ers defeated the Westchester Knicks 121-108 Saturday night at the Bob Carpenter Center.
Shawn Long (21 points, 12 rebounds) and David Laury III (15 points, 10 rebounds) each recorded a double-double in Delaware’s win.
For Westchester, Chasson Randle posted a team-high 25 points, and Devondrick Walker put up 22.
Delaware was able to hold off Westchester from taking the lead in the first quarter until the three-minute mark, when Westchester went up 19-17. Delaware quickly gained their lead back and ended the quarter up 29-22. Long paced Delaware with nine points.
Starting off the second quarter with an 8-0 run, Delaware expanded their lead to 15, putting them up 37-22. Westchester answered with a 12-0 run and came within three points, down 37-34. Delaware held onto their lead through the second and ended the half with a 58-52 edge. Long led the team with 13 points, followed by Cat Barber with 11.
Christmas came out hot in the second half, scoring 16 points in the third. Delaware maintained the lead for the entire quarter, leading by as many as 11, and ended the third up 93-88.
Delaware finished the fourth quarter strong, and came out on top in their season opener.
