HIDALGO, Texas — The Rio Grande Valley Vipers (4-1) cruised to a big win over Erie BayHawks (1-3) 108-80 on Sunday night at the State Farm Arena.
PJ Hairston led the Vipers in points. Hairston scored 16 points for the Vipers and went five-for-five from the free-throw line. Isaiah Taylor once again led the team in assists with a tally of eight. Gary Payton II and Chinanu Onuaku both had 10 rebounds in the game.
The Vipers got the lead with 9:36 remaining in the first quarter after Joshua Smith scored on a reverse layup. After that, the Vipers held on to the lead and controlled the game. RGV finished the quarter 29-16. PJ Hairston finished the first half with 11 points and helped the vipers command their 57-35 lead.
The Vipers continued to extend their lead into the second half and outscored their opponents 51-45. Le’Bryan Nash and JP Tokoto both scored seven points in the second half coming off from the bench. The Vipers held Erie to 80 points and the end of the game with the BayHawks having 36 percent success on field goals.
T.J. Price scored a total of 18 points for Erie BayHawks. Cliff Alexander finished the game with a total of 15 rebounds, 14 of them being defensive rebounds.
