SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Stars, the NBA D-League affiliate of the NBA’s Utah Jazz, were defeated 138-129 at the hands of the Los Angeles D-Fenders Monday night at Bruin Arena.
The Stars (11-21) hung with the top team in the league for the first half, holding a 73-70 advantage at the break. Unfortunately for Salt Lake City, the D-Fenders (25-7) would erupt with a 41-point third quarter to break the game open. The Stars responded by outscoring Los Angeles 34-27 in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough to retake the lead and continue the Stars’ winning streak, which was stopped at four.
Sundiata Gaines posted his second triple-double of the season with 23 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists. Jermaine Taylor led the team in scoring with 24 points on 5-of-8 shooting from beyond the arc. Diamond Stone came off the bench to add 22 points and Joel Bolomboy flirted with a double-double by scoring 21 points and grabbing nine rebounds.
The D-Fenders were led by guard Vander Blue, who had 36 points and finished a perfect 13-for-13 from the free-throw line.
