March 18, 2017 – After trailing by as much as 14 midway into the third quarter, the Greensboro Swarm charged back in the final period behind hot shooting from Damien Wilkins and Perry Ellis. A three-point basket by Ellis with 3:22 left in the matchup tied the game up at 97 apiece, but the Swarm fell just short of a comeback against the Grand Rapids Drive in a 103-108 loss at the Fieldhouse.
Despite outrebounding and forcing more steals and blocks than the Drive, the Swarm couldn’t cool the hot performances of Kevin Murphy (30 points, seven boards) and Lorenzo Brown (26 points, nine rebounds, six assists). Guard Ray McCallum also notched a 20-plus night for Grand Rapids, chipping in 21 points on 60 percent shooting.
The Swarm were once again led by a standout performance from Wilkins who led the team in both points, 28, and rebounds, 17, for another double-double. Rasheed Sulaimon was not far behind him, recording 26 points and six assists while fellow guard Cat Barber added 16 points. Ellis meanwhile recorded 23 points, knocking down five-of-eight from beyond the arc, including three straight three-pointers.
The Swarm are back in action again on Tuesday night when they head to Fort Wayne to take on the Mad Ants in the team’s second-to-last road matchup of the season.
