OSHKOSH, Wis. -– The Wisconsin Herd (1-0), the NBA G League affiliate of the Milwaukee Bucks, won its first game in franchise history in thrilling fashion with a 115-113 buzzer-beater victory against the Rio Grande Valley Vipers (0-2).
Xavier Munford led the Herd with 25 points, including the final three, to secure the Herd’s victory. Munford was five-of-eight from three-point range, dishing out nine assists over 39 minutes played. Herd guard James Young put up the first point of the night for the team and finished with 22 total, adding seven rebounds in 33 minutes.
Troy Williams was five-of-seven from beyond the arc in the first quarter (seven of 14 on the night) and led Rio Grande Valley with 26 points. Briante Weber added 22 points for the Vipers over 38 minutes. Rio Grande Valley amassed a 12 point lead (62-50) going into the half.
The Herd battled back from a 20 point deficit in the third quarter, tying the game at 103 off a three-point shot by Herd Two-Way Contract player Joel Bolomboy with 3:52 left on the clock in the fourth quarter. Bolomboy notched 21 points for the Herd, including five crucial points in the final four minutes of the fourth quarter, and corralled nine rebounds.
Brian Williams (11 points and nine rebounds) and Jarvis Summers (12 points, six rebounds and four assists) both added double-digit point totals for the Herd off the bench.
