GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Westchester Knicks (6-3), the official NBA G League affiliate of the New York Knickerbockers, defeated the Greensboro Swarm (3-4), the Charlotte Hornets’ affiliate, with a final score of 117-107.
Knicks affiliate player Nigel Hayes finished with a game-high 27 points to go with seven rebounds and five assists; his fellow affiliate Trey Burke just one point behind with 26 and an added six rebounds, six assists, and three steals. Knicks Two-Way player Luke Kornet knocked in 23 points, grabbing five rebounds and blocking five shots. Second Two-Way player and North Carolina native Isaiah Hicks supplied 12 points with three each of rebounds and assists and two blocks, while Paul Watson, Billy Garrett, and Jordan Downing all contributed nine points in the win.
New Orleans Two-Way player Jalen Jones led Greensboro with 20 points, also providing seven rebounds and six assists. Charlotte Hornets Two-Way player Marcus Paige finished with 17 points, four assists, and three rebounds, while his fellow Two-Way teammate Mangok Mathiang notched the sole double-double of the game with 14 points and 12 rebounds.
The first quarter was very much a back-and-forth affair with the teams trading 15 leads and tying each other five times. The Knicks took a slight edge in the second, using a 10-1 run to take an eight-point lead. Greensboro answered quickly but still trailed by two at the half.
Two players for each team exploded in the third quarter; Nigel Hayes and Trey Burke combining for 21 points for Westchester and Jalen Jones and Terry Henderson combining for 24 for Greensboro. The small advantage went to the Swarm heading into the final quarter, two points remaining the differentiator, but the fourth quarter belonged to the Knicks as it outscored its opponent 31-19 and running up as much as a 15-point lead. Going 6-for-21 in the final twelve minutes, Greensboro sealed its own fate, falling 117-107.
