Southaven, Miss. — The Memphis Hustle lost to the Austin Spurs 121-99 Friday at Landers Center. The Spurs led by as many as 26 points and outscored Memphis 37-20 in the first quarter. Austin’s first quarter lead was sparked by a 17-2 run early on that put them ahead 21-7.
The Spurs held a 68-46 advantage in the paint and grabbed 22 offensive rebounds, a season-high for any Hustle opponent.
Four of Memphis’ five double digit scorers came off the bench, led by Austin Nichols’ season-high 21 points and eight rebounds. Jordon Crawford also recorded a season-high 16 points to go with seven assists. Chance Comanche (14 points) has now scored 14-or-more in three of his last four games. Dusty Hannahs (12 points) and Grizzlies assignee Ivan Rabb (10 points, eight rebounds) also scored in double figures.
Jaron Blossomgame led the Spurs attack with 20 points on 9-of-12 shooting. Matt Costello posted a double-double of 10 points and 14 rebounds. Amidah Brimah grabbed 15 rebounds and blocked eight shots, a season-high for both Brimah and any Hustle opponent. Darrun Hilliard (17 points), Olivier Hanlan (16 points), Jeff Ledbetter (15 points) and Livio Jean-Charles also reached double figures.
The Hustle will begin another three-game road trip with a Christmas Day matchup against the Sioux Falls Skyforce at 7 p.m. at Sanford Pentagon. The squad returns home for a New Years Eve matinee tilt at 1 p.m. against the Northern Arizona Suns.
