LONG ISLAND – The Long Island Nets (14-9), the NBA G League affiliate of the Brooklyn Nets, fell 113-94 to the Austin Spurs (14-9) on Tuesday night at NYCB LIVE, home of the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
Forward Milton Doyle led the way for the Nets with 22 points, three rebounds, four assists and four steals in 39 minutes, while guard Tahjere McCall registered a double-double for the home team with 11 points and 10 rebounds in 28 minutes. It was Long Island’s ninth double-double of the season and McCall’s first.
Three more Long Island players also scored in double figures in the contest. Guard Jeremy Senglin notched 15 points with four assists in 29 minutes off the bench, center Kamari Murphy tallied 14 points with eight rebounds in 37 minutes and forward Akil Mitchell added 12 points with seven rebounds in 29 minutes off the bench.
For the Spurs, forward Darrun Hilliard tallied a game-high 23 points with four rebounds and two assists in 24 minutes off the bench. Centers Amida Brimah (11 points, 10 rebounds) and Livio Jean-Charles (16 points, 11 rebounds) both registered double-doubles for Austin off the bench.
The Nets were held to just 15 points in the first quarter and trailed by as many as 13 points in the first half before being down 49-39 at halftime. Although Long Island outscored the visitors 34-29 in the third and managed to take a small lead on two occasions, the Nets ultimately fell by 19.
