GREENSBORO, N.C. – Cat Barber had a season-high 32 points and Damien Wilkins chipped in 25 points as the Greensboro Swarm held off the Grand Rapids Drive in a, 110-106, overtime victory at the Fieldhouse at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex on Saturday night. Wilkins scored five of the Swarm’s nine points in overtime to fend off the Drive’s second half comeback.
The Swarm held a two-point lead heading into the final minute of action but a 3-pointer from KJ McDaniels and a pair of free throws from Kay Felder put the Drive ahead, 101-98, with 19.7 seconds remaining. On the Swarm’s last offensive possession, Marcus Paige was fouled on a three-point attempt. He made the clutch free throws to tie the contest with 11.8 seconds left. Mangok Mathiang then blocked a Felder on the ensuing possession, as time expired, to force overtime.
Wilkins had the first points of overtime, hitting from long range. The Swarm put the game away with made free throws from Mathiang, Barber and Wilkins while limiting the Drive to 2-for-9 shooting in the two-minute extra period.
In addition to his 32 points, 18 of which came in the second quarter, Barber have five rebounds, three assists and two steals in 37 minutes. Wilkins’ big night came on 6-for-12 shooting in 37 minutes. Mathiang had an impressive double-double of 12 points, 12 rebounds to go with six blocks. Luke Petrasek also scored in double figures, scoring 11 points with nine rebounds in 27 minutes.
Felder led Grand Rapids with 28 points and 11 assists in 36 minutes. Jamel Morris had 23 points on 7-of-15 shooting. McDaniels scored 15 points off the bench.
