AUSTIN, Texas — The Austin Spurs defeated Raptors 905, 105-93, in Game 1 of the 2017-18 NBA G League Finals at the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park on Sunday night.
Derrick White, on assignment from San Antonio, led the team with 35 points (11-20 FG, 3-6 3FG, 10-10 FT), three rebounds and three assists in 34 minutes. Two-way player Darrun Hilliard added 23 points, six rebounds and three assists in 33 minutes.
Both teams kept it close to begin the game with three ties and four lead changes in the first nine minutes. Hilliard (10) and White (eight) accounted for 26 points of Austin’s 30-23 lead in the first quarter. Despite the Raptors winning the second quarter 26-24, Austin went into halftime leading 54-49. In the second half, White scored 16 points in the third quarter and helped Austin take an 81-76 lead. The Raptors went on an 11-4 run midway into the fourth quarter to tie the game at 89 with six minutes left to play. Austin then went on a 16-4 run to close out the game.
For the Raptors (3-1), two-way player Lorenzo Brown led the team with 20 points, eight assists and seven rebounds in 38 minutes, while Kennedy Meeks contributed with a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds in 32 minutes.
The Spurs will travel to Toronto to take on the Raptors in Game 2 on Tuesday. Game 3 if necessary is scheduled for Friday at the H-E-B Center.
