LONG ISLAND – The Long Island Nets (1-0), the NBA G League affiliate of the Brooklyn Nets, opened the 2018-19 season with a 114-105 win over the Westchester Knicks (1-1) on Saturday night at NYCB LIVE, home of the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
Brooklyn Nets two-way forward Alan Williams scored an NBA G League career-high 27 points while grabbing an NBA G League career-high 21 rebounds. Williams’ 21 rebounds are a Long Island Nets franchise record. Brooklyn Nets guard Dzanan Musa, currently on assignment with the Long Island Nets, contributed 23 points and two-way forward Theo Pinson added another 22 points.
The Long Island Nets took the lead for good after a Dzanan Musa 3-pointer with 3:33 to go in the first quarter. Long Island ended up outscoring Westchester 37-26 after the first quarter. At the half, the Nets led by 13 points, 65-52.
The second half saw Westchester battle back. With 3:11 left in the third quarter, the Knicks cut the Nets’ lead to five. The Nets began to pull away again late in the third and early in the fourth, extending the lead back up to 15 with 11:34 to play in the fourth quarter.
The Knicks made one last late push, cutting the Nets’ lead to five again with 2:57 left to play, but the Nets pulled away, ultimately winning 114-105.
Westchester guard John Jenkins led all scorers with 31 points, shooting 12-of-21 from the field. New York Knicks two-way forward Isaiah Hicks contributed 23 points and eight rebounds.
