LONG ISLAND – The Long Island Nets (2-0), the NBA G League affiliate of the Brooklyn Nets, earned their second win of the 2018-19 season with a 128-127 victory over the Capital City Go-Go (0-2) on Thursday night at NYCB LIVE, home of the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
Brooklyn Nets two-way guard/forward Theo Pinson recorded 29 points, six rebounds and six assists in the win and came up with a key defensive stop in the final seconds of the game. Nets two-way forward/center Alan Williams registered his second consecutive double-double for Long Island, scoring 26 points and pulling down 14 rebounds.
Long Island guard/forward Mitch Creek also posted a double-double in his first start for Long Island, registering 17 points, 11 rebounds, four steals and a block, while Brooklyn Nets assignee Dzanan Musa added 19 points, seven rebounds and four assists in the victory.
The Long Island Nets trailed the majority of the first quarter and by as many as 13 points early in the second quarter before storming back to take a one-point halftime lead, 69-68.
The Nets went up by as many as eight points in the third quarter and led by six points early in the fourth quarter before Capital City battled back to take the lead with 1:25 to play in the game. The Nets would trail until 8.3 seconds remained, when Creek drove to the basket and converted a layup with a foul. The Nets took the lead on Creek’s free throw and a Pinson defensive stop sealed the Nets’ win.
Washington Wizards two-way guard Jordan McRae led all scorers with 30 points, shooting 10-of-26 from the field. Capital City guard Chris Chiozza fell just short of a double-double, posting 14 points to go along with nine assists.
