EL SEGUNDO, Calif. – The South Bay Lakers dropped an overtime contest to the Agua Caliente Clippers, 125-120, on Tuesday night. Jemerrio Jones posted a double-double with 16 points and 16 rebounds, but South Bay (2-6) couldn’t put together the win. Johnathan Motley led the Clippers (2-4) with a career-high 35 points and 11 rebounds.
The Clippers opened up a 31-26 lead through one as Motley scored seven points in the frame. Johnathan Williams scored nine of his own to keep the game competitive. South Bay fought back to take a 60-56 halftime lead behind eight points from Scott Machado.
The Clippers regained the lead after three, 89-83, as Jamel Artis scored 14 points in the period. The Lakers outscored Agua Caliente, 35-29, behind 16 fourth quarter points from Joel Berry II, to send the game to overtime, tied at 118. However, the Clippers outpaced the Lakers in the two-minute extra period to take home the win.
Motley’s career-night (35 points, 11 rebounds, six assists, two steals, three blocks) and 32 points from Artis guided the Clippers to the win as Angel Delgado also put together a double-double with 15 points and 21 rebounds. Desi Rodriguez (14 points) and Darkarai Allen (12 points) also scored in double figures for the Clippers.
Jones tallied big numbers with 16 points, 16 rebounds, five assists, four steals and two blocks, but the Lakers only shot 25 percent from beyond the arc in the loss. Williams (21 points, 10 rebounds) and Machado (22 points, 11 assists) tallied double-doubles as well and Berry II scored a career-high 26 points off the bench. Marcus Allen (11 points) and Demarcus Holland (10 points) also posted double digits for South Bay.
