LAKELAND, Fla. — The Lakeland Magic, NBA G League affiliate of the Orlando Magic, lost to the Austin Spurs with a final score 101-92 in front of a home crowd at the RP Funding Center.
Chimezie Metu was on assignment from San Antonio and racked in a double-double with 22 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Spurs. Nick Johnson posted a stat line of 21 points and 7 assists. Cameron Rundles had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Julian Washburn scored 13 points and 5 rebounds.
Three Magic players scored in double figures led by Troy Caupain, who put up 19 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Byron Mullens came off the bench to post 16 points. Assignment Player Melvin Frazier Jr. scored 11 points with 4 rebounds.
Early in the night the contest was neck and neck with the Magic leading 25-23 going into the second half. The Magic exploded in the second quarter to extend the lead to 9 points and a 52-41 score at the half.
The Magic opened the third quarter scoring but there was a shift in momentum, and with 5:02 left on the clock the Spurs had tied it up 59-59. It was a tight game for the remainder of the third quarter but the Spurs pulled it into overdrive and outscored the Magic 30-22 in the fourth to fall 101-92.
The contest included 5 lead changes throughout the night with the Magic leading by as many as 17 points early on.
