Erie, PA. — The Erie BayHawks, NBA G League affiliate of the Atlanta Hawks Basketball Club (5-5) took down the Wisconsin Herd (1-10), 142-114, tonight inside the friendly confines of Erie Insurance Arena. The 142 points are a new franchise record for most points scored in a regulation game (previously 140-March 29, 2014 vs. Delaware). Erie scored its 142 points on a season-high .561 (55-98) shooting from the floor, including a .400 (16-40) clip from three-point territory.
The BayHawks had seven players score in double figures tonight (R.J. Hunter-28, Craig Sword-23, John Gillon-18, Sanjay Lumpkin-17, Isaac Humphries-17, Jeremy Hollowell-16 and Jaylen Adams-15). Erie dished out a season-high 40 assists in tonight’s win. The 40 assists are the most in any NBA G League game this season (previously 34 held by Westchester-November 23, Westchester vs. Wisconsin) and three shy of tying a franchise record (43-March 28, 2014 at Delaware). The BayHawks held advantages in points in the paint (76-52) and fast break points (21-8).
Jaylen Adams recorded his first-ever triple-double tonight, finishing with 15 points, a game-high 11 rebounds, a game-high 11 assists, one steal and one block in 31.1 minutes of action. Isaac Humphries notched a double-double, tallying 17 points on 7-13 (.538) shooting from the floor, 10 rebounds, two assists, one steal and a game-high tying two blocks in 28.4 minutes. Craig Sword led all bench scoring, contributing 23 points on a career-best 11-12 (.917) shooting, four rebounds, two assists, two steals and one block in 27.4 minutes.
Leading the charge for the Herd was James Young’s team-high 23 points, three rebounds, four assists, a team-high tying two steals and a game-high tying two blocks in 29.6 minutes. Brandon McCoy finished with a double-double, notching 20 points, a team-high 10 rebounds (five offensive) and one block in 18.5 minutes as a reserve. Wisconsin held a seven-point advantage in second chance points (16-9).
The first quarter of tonight’s tilt was back-and-forth, as there were eight lead changes. Craig Sword buried a three-pointer at the buzzer, giving the BayHawks a 38-32 lead after one. Erie extended its lead to 22 points heading into halftime, 80-58. The 80 first half points scored by the BayHawks marks a new franchise record for points in a first half (previously 77-March 28, 2014 at Delaware).
Erie outscored the Wisconsin Herd, 39-31, in the third quarter, behind 20 points from R.J. Hunter. After 36 minutes of action, the BayHawks held a commanding 30-point, 119-89, lead. Erie’s 119 points are the most points scored through three quarters of action in the NBA G League this season (courtesy of Elias Sports Bureau). The Herd outscored the BayHawks, 25-23, in the fourth quarter. Erie would eventually come away with a 142-114 win.
Erie will be back in action Tuesday night for a contest against the Greensboro Swarm. The BayHawks beat the Swarm in their first meeting of the season, 133-116, in Greensboro on Friday, Nov. 23.
