OSHKOSH, Wis. — Raptors 905 emerged victorious against the Wisconsin Herd, 115-112, in a game that came down to the wire at Menominee Nation Arena on Wednesday night.
Both teams had strong offensive showings in the game’s opening quarter, which finished 38-32 in favor of the Raptors. The 905 shot 69.6 percent in the quarter, led by center Chris Boucher’s 14 points on six-of-six shooting. The Herd got half of their shots to fall, going 13-for-26 from the field.
The Raptors looked to have broken the game open after going on a 14-to-4 run to start the second quarter, taking a 16-point lead – their largest of the game. Wisconsin gathered itself, however, thanks to a scoring surge from two-way forward Bonzie Colson. After being held scoreless in the first quarter, Colson erupted for 14 second-quarter points to bring his team’s deficit to just four (62-58) at the half.
The third quarter was a back-and-forth battle, with the lead changing four times in the quarter alone. However, the Raptors took an 84-81 lead with 3:14 left in the third and would remain ahead for the rest of the game.
The Raptors lead was as much as 11 with 3:14 left in the game, but Wisconsin battled till the final horn. The Herd closed the game on a 10-2 run, but Nick Johnson’s 31-footer at the buzzer fell short, sealing the victory for the 905.
Raptors 905’s 21st win of the season came at the hands of Chris Boucher’s game-high 34-point scoring night. The big man also grabbed 12 rebounds in a double-double effort. The Raptors also received a lot of help from the bench, with three players finishing in double figures, including Jordan Howard’s 27.
All five Herd starters finished in double figures, with Colson, Shevon Thompson and Michael Qualls finishing with twenty or more. Colson’s 28 points was a team-high, and Thompson’s 20 was part of another double-double for the Herd center, who also grabbed 15 rebounds in the contest.
Wisconsin takes the court again on Friday night to play the Grand Rapids Drive for the second time this week. The Raptors continue their road trip to Maine as they face off against the Red Claws on Saturday night.
