The Lakeland Magic, NBA G League affiliate of the Orlando Magic, defeat the Long Island Nets 112-109, in front of a home crowd at the RP Funding Center.
It was a back and forth affair in the first quarter with the Nets taking a six point lead (29-23) into the second quarter. The Magic tied it up with 9:29 remaining in the half and gained a little momentum extending the lead to nine points with 2:05 remaining. The Magic were 10 percent from the three, compared to the Nets 43.8 percent but would take a five point lead into the locker room on a buzzer beater by Braian Angola for the score 60-55.
The Magic would extend the lead to ten points at the start of the third on a three-pointer by BJ Johnson with 8:35 left to play in the quarter. The Nets fought back and would get within four points (87-83) entering the final quarter of play. The Magic went on a 9-2 run in the fourth to increase the lead to 11 points with 6:04 remaining. The Nets would get to within two points in the final seconds of the game but the Magic held on for the final score 112-109. Turnovers were a difference maker with the Magic forcing 29 to the Nets 19.
Seven players scored in double figures for the Magic with Braian Angola coming off the bench to score 19 points and 7 rounds on the night. BJ Johnson scored 17 points and 8 rebounds. Anthony Brown posted 17 points and 6 rebounds. John Petrucelli had 13 points. Gabe York scored 12 points and Troy Caupain had 11 points and 5 rebounds.
For the Nets, Theo Pinson had a double-double with 23 points and 11 rebounds. Assignment Player, Dzanan Musa also had a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Alan Williams had 14 points and 6 rebounds. Mitchell Creek had 13 points and 5 rebounds. Shannon Scott also had 13 points on the night.
