WASHINGTON — The Capital City Go-Go, the NBA G League affiliate of the Washington Wizards, defeated the Erie BayHawks in a shootout, 131-123, on Thursday night at the Entertainment and Sports Arena.
The game was a tightly-contested, back-and-forth battle for most of the night. Erie secured the first 10-point lead of the night with 5:32 remaining in the second quarter, holding it for one minute — the only time during the first 46 minutes of the game that either team held a double-digit lead. The pivotal game between Southeast Division opponents saw 13 leads and seven ties throughout.
With the scored tied at 116 with 4:56 remaining, the Go-Go (22-19) went on an 11-0 run over the next 2:48 of game time. Already leading by eight at the time, a Darel Poirier emphatic block of an Alex Poythress dunk attempt and a transition and-one lay-in for the Frenchman gave the Go-Go their biggest lead of the night at 11, which would carry them to the end of the game.
With an assist on the Poirier lay-up, Noah Allen secured the first triple-double in team history, finishing with 13 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists to go along with three steals. Jordan McRae had a historic night himself, as he scored 34 points for his ninth-straight 30-point game, tying Antonio Blakeney’s streak from last season as the longest streak in the last decade.
Allen and McRae’s performances led the way for Capital City’s starters, who all scored in double figures. Poirier finished with 20 points and five rebounds, Isaiah Armwood nearly missed a double-double with 20 points and nine rebounds and Pe’Shon Howard added 10 points and five assists. Kellen Dunham (14) and Quinton Chievous (10) each aided the Go-Go attack, with Chievous finishing a game-high plus-16 in 25 minutes of action. The Go-Go had 66 points in the paint, their most since scoring 70 on January 4 against Canton.
Seven BayHawks players finished in double figures, including all five starters. Atlanta Hawks’ assignee Jordan Sibert and Jeremy Hollowell had 21 points apiece to lead Erie (18-21) in scoring. Alex Poythress secured his ninth double-double of the season with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Cat Barber had his second-straight double-double against the Go-Go with 16 points and 12 assists. Isaac Humphries (13), Craig Sword (12) and Jaylen Morris (11) also scored in double figures for the BayHawks, who shot 16-of-37 (43.2%) from three in the game.
