CANTON, OH – The Canton Charge (20-27), topped the Erie BayHawks (21-26), 103-100 in front of a sellout crowd of 3,905 at the Canton Memorial Civic Center on Saturday night. The Charge swept the season series and improved their all-time record vs. Erie to 29-12. The 29 wins are the most against any single opponent for the Charge.
For the third consecutive game, the Charge trio of JaCorey Williams, Levi Randolph and Jaron Blossomgame each notched a double-double for the Wine & Gold. Randolph scored a season-high 29 points on 13-of-24 shooting to lead all scorers. Randolph tied his season-high with 10 rebounds to secure his third double-double of the season and sixth of his NBA G League career. Williams had an all-around effort with 18 points, 13 rebounds, six assists and four blocks in 41 minutes of action.
Williams’ double-double marked his fourth in as many games. Blossomgame recorded his fourth consecutive double-double as well, netting 17 points with 11 rebounds in 37 minutes and setting a season-high with five blocked shots. The Charge set a team season-high with 12 blocks. Scoochie Smith stuffed the stat sheet with 17 points, seven rebounds and eight assists. Signed earlier in the week via the Available Player Pool, Charge guard Nigel Johnson made his Charge debut, providing nine points off of the bench.
Trailing 84-75 after three tightly contested quarters, the Charge rallied in the fourth quarter for the second straight game behind a staunch defensive effort. The Charge forced six BayHawks turnovers in the fourth, resulting in eight points for the Wine & Gold. Erie went cold from the field in the final period, connecting on 6-of-20 shots (30%). Strong defense resulted into easy offense for the Charge as they were able to assist on 7-of-11 made field goals in the final 12 minutes. The Charge shot 55% in the fourth en route to outscoring Erie 28-16 to close out the 103-100 win. The Charge are now 6-2 in their final home games of the regular season and have won four straight finales.
Cat Barber and Jeremy Hollowell each scored 19 points to lead the BayHawks. Barber had an all-around effort, adding 11 assists and seven rebounds in 42 minutes of action before leaving the game with an injury late in the fourth quarter. Center Isaac Humphries made his presence felt with a double-double of his own, scoring 14 points and grabbing 13 rebounds in 26 minutes. Erie concludes their season with a three-game homestand starting this Wednesday against the Maine Red Claws.
