SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Stars, the official NBA G League affiliate of the Utah Jazz, extended their winning streak to seven games after defeating the South Bay Lakers 113-100 on Thursday night at Bruin Arena.
Seven Stars finished in double figures, led by Trevon Bluiett, who scored a game-high 29 points on 10-of-14 (.714) from the field and 7-of-9 (.778) from beyond the arc. William Howard tallied 19 points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals. Utah Jazz assignment player Miye Oni posted 15 points, six assists and five rebounds. Nigel Williams-Goss, also on assignment from the Jazz, filled the stat sheet with 10 points, four rebounds, six assists and three steals. Jarrell Brantley, Justin Wright-Foreman and Rodney Pryor added 12 points apiece for the Stars.
The Lakers were led by Reggie Hearn who tallied 22 points, five rebounds and three assists. Los Angeles Lakers assignment player Talen Horton-Tucker finished with 16 points, six rebounds, three assists, two steals and one block. Devontae Cacok posted his eighth double-double of the season with 14 points and 13 rebounds in 26 minutes off the bench.
The first quarter was a back-and-forth battle with five lead changes, but the Stars came out on top with a 32-31 lead. Oni scored 10 points in the opening quarter for Salt Lake, while Hearn lead the way for South Bay with 11 points on 3-of-4 from the three. The Stars carried their lead through the second quarter and held South Bay to just 18 points in the period to take a 59-49 halftime lead.
Salt Lake City continued to hold the advantage, owning an 83-72 lead with 12 minutes left to play. South Bay fought back in the final frame but Bluiett’s 12 points (3-of-4 from beyond the arc) pushed the Stars to a 113-100 victory.
The Stars held the advantage in three-pointers (18-10), steals (13-9) and turnovers (24-29), while the Lakers grabbed more rebounds (48-47), scored more points in the paint (48-34) and posted more fast break points (9-4).
